What is hair transplantation?
Hair transplantation is the transfer of healthy hair follicles from a healthy point of the scalp to another. Hair thinning is caused due to hair loss, which is a symptom of alopecia.
Hair transplantation is the modern and most appropriate method of definitive treatment of hair loss. The surgical method of hair transplantation is characterized as safe, painless and with immediate results compared to traditional methods.
Due to the rapid increase in alopecia cases, from young ages, the number of hair transplant surgeries is rising. Patients are quick to deal directly with the condition, aiming at improving both their appearance and their psychology.
Which hair transplant techniques exist?
There many Hair transplant techniques and the appropriate technique is selected based on the patient’s needs. Among the most widespread and modern techniques are:
– Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)
– Follicular Unit Extraction or Excision (FUE).
Dr. Apostolos Karalexis, specializes in hair transplantation techniques, with years of experience and retraining in Greece and the USA, he suggests FUE hair transplantation for excellent and lasting results.
What is the FUE hair transplant technique?
The FUE hair transplant technique is preferred and is now recommended, compared to the FUT, because of the benefits it offers. Individual hair follicles are transferred from a healthy area of the scalp to the region of hair thinning. Using local anesthesia, the physician collects separate hair follicles with 1-4 hairs. Then small “holes” are performed using special fine needles to place the grafts.
The proper placement of the implants is important in order to create the necessary density, as well as a natural result.
One of the main differences and also an advantage of the FUE technique is to obtain separate hair follicles from a healthy part of the head. This avoids the appearance of a thin line or scar. One of the most important assets of the technique is the excellent aesthetic result, since it does not injure the skin, preventing the appearance of scars.
