Hair Transplantation with FUE

What is hair transplantation?

Hair transplantation is the transfer of healthy hair follicles from a healthy point of the scalp to another.  Hair thinning is caused due to hair loss, which is a symptom of alopecia.

Hair transplantation is the modern and most appropriate method of definitive treatment of hair loss. The surgical method of hair transplantation is characterized as safe, painless and with immediate results compared to traditional methods.

Due to the rapid increase in alopecia cases, from young ages, the number of hair transplant surgeries is rising. Patients are quick to deal directly with the condition, aiming at improving both their appearance and their psychology.

Which hair transplant techniques exist?

There many Hair transplant techniques and the appropriate technique is selected based on the patient’s needs. Among the most widespread and modern techniques are:

– Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)

– Follicular Unit Extraction or Excision (FUE).

Dr. Apostolos Karalexis, specializes in hair transplantation techniques, with years of experience and retraining in Greece and the USA, he suggests FUE hair transplantation for excellent and lasting results.

What is the FUE hair transplant technique?

The FUE hair transplant technique is preferred and is now recommended, compared to the FUT, because of the benefits it offers. Individual hair follicles are transferred from a healthy area of the scalp to the region of hair thinning. Using local anesthesia, the physician collects separate hair follicles with 1-4 hairs.  Then small “holes” are performed using special fine needles to place the grafts.

The proper placement of the implants is important in order to create the necessary density, as well as a natural result.

One of the main differences and also an advantage of the FUE technique is to obtain separate hair follicles from a healthy part of the head. This avoids the appearance of a thin line or scar. One of the most important assets of the technique is the excellent aesthetic result, since it does not injure the skin, preventing the appearance of scars.

What are the advantages of FUE hair transplantation technique?

Some of the advantages of FUE hair transplant technique, compared to other methods, include:

  • It is a minimally invasive surgical procedure
  • Immediate recovery and return to everyday life
  • Minimal chances of inflammation
  • Very little chance of post-operative complications
  • Excellent aesthetic result almost without any scarring
  • Ability to collect hair follicles from other parts of the body(Body Hair Transplant)

What should the patient take care of?

Hair transplantation is considered a demanding intervention, while the strategic positioning of the grafts is critical. Choosing a specialized dermatologist with the necessary training and experience is of major importance. The patient should have a doctor who has the necessary skills and be fully informed about any developments in the technique. Properly equipped space and the use of modern machines are equally important.

Who can be a transplant candidate?

The physician must take into account certain patient-related factors in order to ensure the maximum effect including:

  • Sex
  • Age
  • Stage of alopecia
  • Area of alopecia
  • Characteristics and face shape
  • Patient expectations

If you suffer from alopecia or if you experience severe hair loss, arrange your appointment directly with your qualified Dermatologist Surgeon, Dr. Apostolos Karalexis. The doctor will provide you with a personalized diagnosis as well as a treatment plan based on the needs and a technique that suits your case.
