Acne treatment is now effectively done with the Ellipse laser of Nordlys-Candela company.

It is a fast, safe and unique treatment that addresses all types of acne and all ages and is offered at the Derma Hair Clinic under the supervision of the experienced dermatologist Dr. Apostolos Karalexis.

It is therefore a useful treatment for all patients and especially for those who have tried everything and yet their acne persists or for those who cannot for some reasons follow a specific medication such as isotretinoin pills, antibiotics, etc. Laser acne treatment can be combined without any problem with topical treatment that the patient may be receiving at the same time or even with homeopathic treatment for acne.

Acne Treatment

Ellipse-Candela Laser for acne is more appropriate for the superficial lessions of the acne. The mode of action of the laser is done in two ways:

  1. Selective photothermolysis: The energy from the laser is converted into heat which acts on the hemoglobin circulating in the small vessels of the skin  glands
  2. Photodynamic pathway ( photodynamic treatment for acne ): specific wavelengths of laser are absorbed by porphyrins which are produced by the bacterium P. acnes responsible for acne. This produces free radicals which have a bactericidal effect and destroy this bacterium.

Ellipse Laser treatment is performed with the PR head which emits at wavelengths of 540, 580 and 635 nm. These are also the wavelengths that the porphyrins produced by P. acnes bacteria absorb.

The treatment should be repeated at regular intervals depending on the severity of the disease. Usually one session per month is recommended until acne recovery is achieved.

The Session

The Ellipse laser session does not hurt at all. The patient only feels a mild sensation of heat which subsides immediately. Also, no anesthetic cream is required before the treatment. Usually after the end of the treatment there is a slight reduction in the redness of the red acne papules. The effects are more pronounced in the following days where this lasting reduction in their size and their gradual atrophy can be seen. So in a few days we have a clear face without the annoying acne pimples.

At the end of the treatment the patient is instructed to avoid sun exposure for the next two to five days and to apply sunscreen. Any topical treatment received should be discontinued for 2-3 days.
